Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the BCL-2 protein family. Members of this family form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators involved in diverse cellular activities.
This protein contains conserved BH4, BH1, and BH2 domains and can interact with other BCL-2 family members such as BCL2, BCL2L1/BCL-X(L), and BAX.
Overexpression of this gene may suppress cell apoptosis by preventing cytochrome C release from mitochondria and inhibiting caspase-3 activation.
In mouse, the counterpart interacts with Apaf1 and forms a complex with Caspase 9, suggesting involvement in APAF1 and CASPASE 9 related apoptotic pathways.
