SARS-CoV-2 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus that causes COVID-19.
The virus contains a glycosylated spike (S) protein composed of S1 and S2 subunits. The S1 subunit includes a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that binds to the ACE2 receptor on target cells.
