Target Information
Nitric oxide (NO) is an inorganic, gaseous free radical that mediates various cellular signals such as vasorelaxation, neurotransmission, and cytotoxicity. NO production is catalyzed by nitric oxide synthase (NOS) enzymes, which convert L-arginine into L-citrulline and NO.
There are three main NOS isoforms:
- nNOS (neuronal, type I)
- iNOS (inducible, type II)
- eNOS (endothelial, type III)
All NOS isoforms contain calmodulin, NADPH, FAD, and FMN binding domains.
