Target Information
Striated muscle in vertebrates comprises large proteins that must be properly organized for efficient contraction. Z-lines in striated muscle mark the ends of actin thin filaments, titin, nebulin or nebulette, and associated proteins essential for structural integrity and function. The MYPN gene encodes a protein that interacts with nebulin in skeletal muscle or nebulette in cardiac muscle, as well as alpha-actinin. It may also interact with I-band proteins, indicating both regulatory and structural roles. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
