Target Information
The MT-ATP6 gene encodes a protein essential for normal mitochondrial function. Mitochondria generate cellular energy through oxidative phosphorylation, producing adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The MT-ATP6 protein forms part of the ATP synthase complex (Complex V), which catalyzes the conversion of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to ATP using the energy from proton flow across the mitochondrial membrane.
