Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure composed of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings). Proteasomes are widely distributed in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides via an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides. The PSMB7 gene encodes a member of the proteasome B-type (T1B) family, a 20S core beta subunit. Expression of this catalytic subunit is downregulated by gamma interferon, and proteolytic processing is required to generate a mature form. This subunit is not present in the immunoproteasome and is replaced by catalytic subunit 2i (proteasome beta 10 subunit).
