Target Information
p27 Kip1 functions as a negative regulator of G1 phase expression and may mediate TGFβ-induced G1 arrest. It is a crucial regulator of cell cycle progression and inhibits cyclin E- and cyclin A-CDK2 complexes. p27 Kip1 interacts with cyclin D-CDK4 complexes, contributing to their assembly, stability, and activation modulation. Depending on phosphorylation state and stoichiometry, p27 Kip1 can act as either an inhibitor or activator of cyclin D-CDK4 complexes. This protein (~27 kDa) undergoes CDK-dependent phosphorylation and ubiquitination by SCF complexes, enabling the transition from quiescence to proliferation.
