Target Information
Dystrophin is a 427 kDa protein encoded by the DMB/BMD gene on the X chromosome (Xp21).
Western blotting and immunohistochemistry are established methods for detecting dystrophin abnormalities in muscle biopsies.
Such abnormalities are observed in nearly all patients with Duchenne or Becker muscular dystrophy (DMD/BMD), although genetic mutations may only be identified in approximately 65% of cases.
