Target Information
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a massive loss of neurons and the presence of senile plaques composed of aggregated amyloid-beta (Abeta) peptides produced by endoproteolysis of amyloid precursor protein (APP).
CALHM1 (Calcium Homeostasis Modulator 1) is a multipass transmembrane glycoprotein that controls cytosolic Ca²⁺ concentration and Abeta levels. Some studies suggest CALHM1 is associated with AD risk, while others report no link. CALHM1 may modulate the Ca²⁺-dependent proteolytic process of APP by regulating cytosolic Ca²⁺ levels.
