CCL5 (RANTES)는 염색체 17q에 위치한 케모카인 유전자로, 면역조절 및 염증 반응에 관여하는 분비 단백질 초가족에 속합니다.
CCL5는 CC 서브패밀리의 구성원으로서 단핵구, 메모리 T 헬퍼 세포, 호산구의 화학주성 인자로 작용합니다.
또한 비만세포에서 히스타민 분비를 유도하고 호산구를 활성화합니다.
이 사이토카인은 CD8+ 세포에서 생성되는 주요 HIV 억제 인자 중 하나로, CCR5 수용체의 자연 리간드로 작용하여 HIV-1 R5 균주의 복제를 억제합니다.
대체 스플라이싱에 의해 여러 전사 변이체가 생성되어 다양한 아이소폼을 형성합니다.
CCL5와 관련된 질환으로는 인간 면역결핍 바이러스 1형(HIV-1) 감염 및 근단 육아종(Periapical Granuloma)이 있습니다.
