Target Information
RAP80 was initially identified as a zinc-finger containing nuclear protein highly expressed in testis and interacting with the retinoid-related testis-associated receptor (RTR). It is recruited by the Coiled-coil domain 98 (CCDC98) protein to BRCA1, enabling BRCA1 foci formation in response to DNA damage from ionizing radiation. RAP80 and CCDC98 are essential for DNA damage resistance, G2-M checkpoint control, and DNA repair. Cells depleted of either RAP80 or CCDC98 show increased sensitivity to ionizing radiation, though less than BRCA1-depleted cells, indicating their partial role in BRCA1-mediated DNA damage response. At least four isoforms of RAP80 are known.
