Target Information

The SEPT5 gene belongs to the septin family of nucleotide-binding proteins, first described in yeast as cell division cycle regulatory proteins. Septins are conserved across species and play a role in cytoskeletal organization. Disruption of septin function affects cytokinesis, leading to multinucleate or polyploid cells.
This gene is located on chromosome 22q11, a region often deleted in DiGeorge and velocardiofacial syndromes. A translocation involving the MLL gene and SEPT5 has been observed in acute myeloid leukemia cases.
Two transcript variants (2.2 kb and 3.5 kb) have been identified, differing in polyadenylation signal usage. An alternatively spliced transcript with a distinct 5′ end has also been reported, though its full-length sequence remains undetermined.
