Nebulin은 근육 섬유의 sarcomere 내에서 두꺼운 필라멘트와 얇은 필라멘트와 함께 존재하는 거대 단백질로, 세포골격 매트릭스의 주요 구성 요소입니다. 대부분의 척추동물에서 전체 근섬유 단백질의 약 3~4%를 차지합니다. 단백질은 약 30개의 아미노산 길이 모듈로 구성되며, 7가지 유형으로 분류됩니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 조직, 종, 발달 단계에 따라 isoform 크기가 600~800 kDa로 다양합니다. 183개의 엑손 중 최소 43개가 대체 스플라이싱되며, 엑손 143과 144는 동일한 전사체에서 함께 존재하지 않습니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 열성 nemaline myopathy와 관련이 있습니다.
