Product Specific Information
MA1-300 detects beta Catenin from A431, WI-38, and MCF-7 human cell lines, as well as mouse and rat samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot applications, detecting a ~94 kDa protein representing beta Catenin.
The immunogen used is recombinant beta Catenin protein.
Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and signaling. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin to anchor the E-cadherin complex to the actin cytoskeleton.
It also associates with the adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules, participating in Wnt/Wingless and other signaling pathways that regulate morphogenesis.
Beta-catenin expression is found in hair follicle cells, basal and peripheral matrix cells, and cells of the outer and inner root sheaths.
Pathological roles have been identified in pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal, ovarian, and other solid tumors.
In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting expression of genes such as cyclin D and c-myc that drive cell proliferation — a key mechanism in tumorigenesis.
