Target Information
Inhibins and activins regulate various biological processes including hypothalamic and pituitary hormone secretion, gonadal hormone secretion, germ cell development and maturation, erythroid differentiation, insulin secretion, nerve cell survival, embryonic axial development, and bone growth depending on their subunit composition. Activins counteract the functions of inhibins. Inhibins are mainly expressed in liver, uterus, and ovary tissues, as well as in benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Inhibin A (α/β-A dimer) and Inhibin B (α/β-B dimer) inhibit follicle-stimulating hormone secretion. Inhibin β-C forms a homodimer, predominantly expressed in adult liver and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
