Target Information

AHNAK1 (Desmoyokin) is a large (~700 kDa) scaffold protein that translocates to the plasma membrane after an increase in extracellular calcium or upon protein kinase C activation, regulating calcium influx via L-type Ca²⁺ channels. It is involved in signal transduction processes influencing cell differentiation and proliferation.
In calcium-dependent intercellular contacts, AHNAK1 forms multimeric complexes at the plasma membrane with actin and annexin 2/S100A10 assemblies, contributing to membrane architecture organization.
In epithelial cells, AHNAK1 is cytoplasmic or membrane-associated, while in non-epithelial cells it is predominantly nuclear, exhibiting weak DNA-binding activity and association with the DNA-ligase IV–XRCC4 complex.
