Target Information

Tryptase gamma (TPSG1), also known as serine protease 31 or transmembrane tryptase, is a human enzyme encoded by the TPSG1 gene.
Tryptases are trypsin-like serine proteases in the peptidase family S1, active only as heparin-stabilized tetramers and resistant to endogenous proteinase inhibitors.
Several tryptase genes are clustered on chromosome 16p13.3, including four functional genes: alpha I, beta I, beta II, and gamma I.
Beta tryptases are mainly expressed in mast cells, while alpha tryptases are predominant in basophils.
TPSG1 differs from other tryptase family members by having a C-terminal hydrophobic domain that may serve as a membrane anchor.
Tryptases have been implicated as mediators in asthma and other allergic or inflammatory disorders.
