This antibody detects endogenous levels of total VGLL2.
Target Information
VGLL2 is a key regulator in Drosophila wing development, acting via interaction with scalloped, a homolog of vertebrate TEF proteins. In humans, VGLL2 expression is detected in skeletal muscle. During mouse embryogenesis, it is expressed in differentiating somites and branchial arches.
VITO1, a clone of VGLL2, contains a scalloped interaction domain (SID) and is highly expressed in differentiated myotubes of the mouse C2C12 cell line. During differentiation, VGLL2 mRNA levels increase and its protein translocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. Suppression of VITO1 expression by siRNA attenuates muscle cell differentiation, indicating VGLL2’s critical role in myogenic development.
