Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins. The RPS12 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S12E family. It is located in the cytoplasm. Increased expression of this gene has been observed in colorectal cancers compared to matched normal colonic mucosa. As typical for ribosomal protein genes, multiple processed pseudogenes are dispersed through the genome.
