Calcium Channel gamma-3 (CACNG3) is a member of voltage-dependent calcium channels (VDCCs) that enable neurons to modulate calcium signaling in specific cellular regions.
Most N-Type VDCC subunit expression occurs postnatally and is important for synaptic transmission in hippocampal fields.
Calcium Channel gamma-3 is a type I transmembrane AMPA receptor regulatory protein (TARP) that regulates both trafficking and channel gating of AMPA receptors.
It belongs to the PMP-22/EMP/MP20 protein family and is implicated as a susceptibility locus for childhood absence epilepsy.
