Target Information
The small G protein GDP dissociation stimulator (smg GDS) is a regulatory protein with two main activities on small G proteins, including Rho and Rap1 family members and Ki-Ras: stimulating GDP/GTP exchange and inhibiting membrane interactions.
The protein encoded by this gene contains nine Armadillo repeats and interacts with smg GDS through these repeats. It is highly concentrated around the endoplasmic reticulum and is phosphorylated by v-src, which reduces its affinity for smg GDS.
This protein is thought to serve as a linker between human chromosome-associated polypeptide (HCAP) and KIF3A/B, a kinesin superfamily protein in the nucleus, playing a role in chromosome–motor protein interactions. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
