Target Information
The ABL1 proto-oncogene encodes a cytoplasmic and nuclear protein tyrosine kinase involved in cell differentiation, division, adhesion, and stress response. Its activity is negatively regulated by the SH3 domain, and deletion of this domain converts c-Abl into an oncogene. In chronic myelogenous leukemia and some acute lymphoblastic leukemias, a (9;22) translocation produces the Philadelphia chromosome, resulting in the Bcr-Abl fusion gene. c-Abl is also implicated in DNA repair and apoptosis regulation when DNA damage is irreparable.
