Target Information
The nuclear pore complex (NPC) is a large structure spanning the nuclear envelope, regulating the exchange of macromolecules between nucleus and cytoplasm. Nucleoporins are key components of the NPC in eukaryotic cells.
NUP214 is an FG-repeat-containing nucleoporin localized to the cytoplasmic face of the NPC, essential for cell cycle progression and nucleocytoplasmic transport.
The 3′ region of this gene can form a fusion gene with the DEK gene on chromosome 6 in a t(6;9) translocation associated with acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome.
Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
