Target Information
The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway of protein degradation ensures proper cellular protein levels. The ubiquitin-like (UbL) and ubiquitin-associated (UBA) domain-containing protein family participates in proteasomal degradation. CIP75 (Ubiquilin-4) interacts with proteins such as Ataxin-1 and Connexin-43, increasing their turnover rate. Overexpression of CIP75 reduces Connexin-43 half-life, while knockdown increases it. CIP75 has an N-terminal UbL domain that interacts with the 26S proteasome complex and a C-terminal UBA domain that mediates interaction with Connexin-75. At least three isoforms of CIP75 are known.
