ATG10은 자가포식(autophagy)에 관여하는 단백질로, 세포질 내 구성 성분을 리소좀/액포를 통해 분해하는 과정에서 중요한 역할을 합니다.
자가포식소체(autophagosome)의 형성에는 막의 동적 재배열이 필요하며, 이는 두 가지 유비퀴틴 유사 변형(APG12p의 결합과 MAP-LC3의 막 결합형 변형)에 의해 조절됩니다.
ATG10은 E2-유사 효소로서, ATG12–ATG5 결합과 MAP-LC3(MAP1LC3A)의 막 결합형 변형에 필수적인 두 가지 유비퀴틴 유사 변형에 관여합니다.
이 단백질은 광범위하게 발현되며, 인간의 APG10L 유전자는 염색체 5q14.2에 위치합니다.
