Target Information
Apoptosis plays a key role in organism development, tissue homeostasis, and removal of damaged cells. Disruption of apoptosis is implicated in diseases such as cancer.
Aven is a protein that inhibits apoptosis induced by Apaf-1 and caspase-9. It binds to Bcl-xL and Apaf-1, potentially interfering with Apaf-1 self-association and caspase activation. Elevated Aven mRNA levels are observed in patients with acute leukemia, suggesting its potential as a prognostic indicator.
