Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and have isoelectric points between 4.9 and 7.8.
Each cytokeratin subtype (numbered 1–20) is expressed in specific epithelial types and correlates with the degree of maturation or differentiation.
Cytokeratin expression patterns assist in distinguishing epithelial malignancies and are valuable in immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometric assays.
