Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in MAPK cascades that regulate cell growth and differentiation. It is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, and membrane depolarization. Mek1 activation occurs via phosphorylation at serine residues 218 and 222 by Raf1. It plays a role in stress response, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation. Mutations in MAP2K1 are associated with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
