Target Information

Members of the M14 metallocarboxypeptidase protein family serve many diverse functions and are divided into three subfamilies based on structure, function, and amino acid sequence similarity.
As a member of the A/B subfamily, CPA6 (Carboxypeptidase A6) is a 437 amino acid secreted, zinc-binding protein containing a propetide at the amino terminus, cleaved upon activation.
CPA6 is broadly expressed in embryonic tissues and highly in the adult olfactory bulb and epididymis. It cleaves large C-terminal hydrophobic residues from proteins and substrates, likely contributing to extracellular neuropeptide processing.
Mutations in CPA6 are linked to Duane syndrome, a congenital eye movement disorder involving abnormal development of cranial nerve VI (abducens nerve).
Three isoforms of CPA6 exist due to alternative splicing.
