Product Specific Information
A 1:1,000 dilution of MA5-45358 was sufficient for detection of ENaC alpha in 15 µg of mouse whole kidney lysate by ECL immunoblot analysis using goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects approximately 85 kDa.
Target Information
Epithelial sodium channels (ENaC) are amiloride-sensitive members of the degenerin/epithelial sodium channel (Deg/ENaC) superfamily of ion channels. These channels share a common structure with two short intracellular termini, two transmembrane segments, and a large extracellular loop containing a conserved cysteine-rich region.
ENaC has three homologous isoforms: alpha, beta, and gamma. It plays a critical role in sodium and fluid balance across epithelial tissues such as the kidney, lung, and colon. ENaC mediates aldosterone-dependent sodium reabsorption in the distal nephron, regulating blood pressure.
Mutations in ENaC subunits are associated with disorders such as Liddle’s syndrome (gain-of-function) and pseudohypoaldosteronism type 1 (loss-of-function).
