Target Information

Cryptochrome 1 (CRY1) and Cryptochrome 2 (CRY2) are key regulators of circadian rhythms, functioning through transcriptional and post-translational feedback loops. These DNA-binding flavoproteins share homology with blue-light receptors and photolyases. In Drosophila, CRY acts as a light-dependent photoreceptor, while mammalian CRY1/CRY2 interact with CLOCK, BMAL1, PER1, PER2, and TIM to regulate circadian gene expression. Proper balance between CRY1 and CRY2 is essential for maintaining rhythmicity; double mutants exhibit arrhythmicity, indicating loss of internal clock function.
