Zinc is the second most abundant trace metal in the human body. It serves both structural and catalytic roles in various biological processes, including DNA-binding proteins and metalloenzymes such as pancreatic carboxypeptidases, alkaline phosphatases, dehydrogenases, and superoxide dismutases.
SLC30A4 (ZNT4) is a member of the ZNT family of zinc transporters, which transport zinc out of the cytoplasm. These transporters share a common structure with six transmembrane domains and a histidine-rich cytoplasmic loop (Huang and Gitschier, 1997).
