Target Information

ATF3 (Activating Transcription Factor 3) belongs to the mammalian activation transcription factor/cAMP responsive element-binding (CREB) protein family.
It encodes a protein with a molecular mass of approximately 22 kDa and primarily represses transcription from promoters with ATF binding elements.
An alternatively spliced form, ATF3 delta Zip, lacks the leucine zipper domain and does not bind DNA but can stimulate transcription by sequestering inhibitory cofactors.
Alternative splicing of ATF3 may play a role in regulating target gene expression.
Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been identified.
