Target Information

Teprotumumab is a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody directed against the human insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF1R). It was assessed in clinical trials for the treatment of thyroid eye disease (TED) and received FDA breakthrough therapy designation in 2016. In January 2020, it was approved by the FDA as the first pharmaceutical treatment for TED, a serious complication of Graves’ disease characterized by inflammation and tissue remodeling behind the eye. Previous treatments often required multiple invasive surgeries; teprotumumab represents a major advancement in the management of this condition.
