Target Information
The product of this gene belongs to the ligand-gated ion channel receptor superfamily. It encodes subunit A of the type 3 receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), which functions as a neurotransmitter, hormone, and mitogen. This receptor mediates fast depolarizing responses in neurons. Full receptor functionality requires heteromeric assembly of A and B subunits; each subunit alone exhibits low conductance and response amplitude. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
