Target Information
ZEB2, initially identified as Smad interacting-protein 1, is a nuclear DNA-binding transcriptional repressor that interacts with activated SMADs. Similar to ZEB1, ZEB2 inhibits E-cadherin transcription and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a key process in cell migration during embryonic development and wound healing. ZEB2 can also protect cells from DNA damage-induced apoptosis, potentially contributing to tumor progression. It is often observed in the cytoplasm of various cancer tissues, suggesting regulated localization in normal and tumor cells. Mutations in ZEB2 are associated with Hirschsprung disease/Mowat-Wilson syndrome.
