NPM1은 핵, 세포질, 핵소체 사이를 지속적으로 이동하며, 핵소체 내에서 히스톤을 보호하고 단백질 응집을 방지하는 샤페론 역할을 수행합니다.
또한 NPM1은 여러 종양 관련 융합 단백질(NPM-ALK, NPM-RAR, NPM-MLF1)의 구성 요소로 알려져 있으며, 급성 골수성 백혈병 및 림프종과 같은 질병과 관련이 있습니다.
