Target Information
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme protein synthesized during myeloid differentiation and is a major component of neutrophil azurophilic granules. It is produced as a single-chain precursor and subsequently cleaved into light and heavy chains. The mature MPO forms a tetramer composed of two light and two heavy chains. This enzyme generates hypohalous acids critical for the microbicidal activity of neutrophils. Diseases associated with MPO include Myeloperoxidase Deficiency and Familial Alzheimer’s Disease type 1.
