ULK1는 자가포식(autophagy)의 초기 단계에서 중요한 역할을 하는 세린/트레오닌 단백질 키나아제입니다. ULK1의 보존된 C-말단 도메인(CTD)은 단백질의 조절 기능과 위치를 제어합니다. ULK1의 발현 억제는 자가포식 반응 및 라파마이신 유도 자가포식을 억제하며, 이는 mTOR 하위 경로에서의 역할과 일치합니다. ULK1은 FIP200 및 ATG13과 복합체를 형성하며, 이 복합체는 영양 결핍 시 유도되는 자가포식에 필수적입니다. FIP200과 ATG13은 ULK1의 전자가포포체(pre-autophagosome)로의 올바른 위치 지정과 단백질 안정성에 중요합니다. ULK1은 영양 결핍에 따라 mTOR 경로에 의해 인산화됩니다.
