Target Information
WNK1 serine/threonine kinase is a member of the WNK subfamily.
WNK1 may regulate blood pressure by controlling sodium and chloride ion transport.
Mutations in this gene are associated with pseudohypoaldosteronism type II and hereditary sensory neuropathy type II.
WNK1 plays a role in electrolyte homeostasis, cell signaling, survival, and proliferation.
It acts as an activator and inhibitor of sodium- and potassium-coupled chloride cotransporters respectively.
WNK1 localizes to the distal nephron, involved in salt, potassium, and pH homeostasis.
Mutations in the WNK gene can lead to pseudohypoaldosteronism and neuropathy.
