Target Information
The LRP1 protein functions as an endocytic receptor involved in intracellular signaling, lipid homeostasis, and clearance of apoptotic cells. It is also essential for A2M-mediated clearance of secreted amyloid precursor protein and beta-amyloid, the main component of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease.
Expression of LRP1 decreases with age and is reduced in brain tissue from Alzheimer patients compared to controls.
