Target Information
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a neuroprotective factor that stimulates the growth of some tumor cells and inhibits others. The ADNP gene encodes a protein upregulated by VIP and may mediate its stimulatory effects on certain tumor cells. This protein contains one homeobox and nine zinc finger domains, functioning as a transcription factor. It is also upregulated in normal proliferative tissues and may enhance cell viability through modulation of p53 activity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.
