Target Information
The TYR-related proteins, TRP1 and TRP2, are specifically expressed in melanocytes and contribute to melanin synthesis within melanosomes. These TRPs share a similar transmembrane region, contain two metal-binding regions and a cysteine-rich EGF motif, and are localized in the melanosomal membrane. Each protein exhibits distinct catalytic activity and collectively contributes to melanin biopolymer biosynthesis. TRPs are believed to form a multi-enzyme complex, stabilizing TYR expression in melanocytes.
