Target Information

Heme oxygenase는 heme 대사에서 필수적인 효소로, heme을 biliverdin으로 절단하고 biliverdin은 biliverdin reductase에 의해 bilirubin으로 전환된다. 또한 carbon monoxide를 생성하며, 이는 신경전달물질로 작용할 수 있다. Heme oxygenase는 기질 heme 및 다양한 비-heme 물질에 의해 유도된다. 두 가지 isozyme, inducible Heme oxygenase-1 (HMOX1)과 constitutive Heme oxygenase-2 (HMOX2)가 존재하며, 모두 heme oxygenase family에 속한다.
