Background
Activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4, also known as CREB-2)는 HTLV-1의 LTR 내 tax-responsive enhancer element에 결합할 수 있는 DNA 결합 단백질로 처음 확인되었습니다. 이 단백질은 AP-1, CREB 및 CREB-like 단백질을 포함하는 DNA 결합 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 류신 지퍼(Leucine zipper) 영역을 통해 단백질-단백질 상호작용을 수행합니다. 이 영역은 DNA 결합 도메인으로 기능하는 염기성 아미노산 서열의 C-말단에 위치합니다. 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사체가 보고되었으며, X 염색체 q28 영역에는 두 개의 유사유전자가 존재합니다.
