배경 정보
The protein encoded by this gene is one of the highly conserved mini-chromosome maintenance proteins (MCM) essential for the initiation of eukaryotic genome replication. The hexameric complex formed by MCM proteins is a key component of the pre-replication complex (pre_RC) and may be involved in replication fork formation and recruitment of other DNA replication-related proteins. The MCM complex (MCM2, 4, 6, 7) has DNA helicase activity and functions as a DNA unwinding enzyme. Phosphorylation by CDC2 kinase reduces helicase activity and chromatin binding. The gene is located on chromosome 8 adjacent to PRKDC/DNA-PK, involved in DNA double-strand break repair. Alternatively spliced transcripts may exist.
