Background
Laminins are a family of extracellular matrix glycoproteins and the major noncollagenous components of basement membranes. They play key roles in biological processes such as cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis. Laminins consist of three non-identical chains (alpha, beta, and gamma) forming a cruciform structure. Each chain is encoded by a distinct gene, and various isoforms combine to generate different heterotrimeric laminin isoforms, designated numerically (e.g., α1β1γ1 = Laminin 1).
