Background
Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily F member 6 (OR4F6) is a human olfactory receptor that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses triggering the perception of smell. These receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) derived from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for odorant recognition and G protein-mediated signal transduction. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome, and its nomenclature is species-specific.
