Target Information
The BAD protein is a member of the BCL-2 family, known for regulating programmed cell death. It promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their anti-apoptotic effects. The activity of BAD is modulated by phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAPK, and the phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing of the BAD gene results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
