Target Information
Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. They participate in biological processes such as respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric acid.
CA1 is a cytosolic enzyme highly expressed in erythrocytes and closely linked to CA2 and CA3 genes on chromosome 8. Variants and alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified in some populations.
